PIN HILL in Canterbury is said to not only be a home to students. Beetles and maggots have infested certain flats in the accommodation block causing upset and conflict between students.
Emma Rashbrook, a student living with the trouble said: “I found maggots in my cupboard when I went to make dinner, it made me feel sick and I can hardly bare to be in the kitchen.”
Emma explained that both her and her flat mate had an encounter with a large black beetle; both girls were left feeling worried and disappointed at the problem not knowing what to do.
She said: “We pay a lot to be here and it is not fair that we have to live like this.”
Students having to cope with this worry seek help from others in the house, as they are unsure of who else to turn to, this then puts all residents in a difficult position.
James Colvin-Jarvis, in the flat below commented that he had no problems like this in his flat.
He said: “There have not been any problems with insects in our kitchen and I’ve got my fingers crossed that there never will be.”
“The girls come down and tell me to get rid of the bugs they find but it is not a nice job. They panic themselves and have no idea what to do about it.” He added.
Sophie Kidd, living in the infested flat said: “I hate what we are living with, it makes me upset and makes the flat an unfriendly place to be living.”
